I’ve been waiting for just the right time to start wearing the Dries van Noten pieces I began coveting when I laid eyes upon them on the runway months back. The warm(er) nights in LA this past weekend provided just the excuse I needed.
On the runway, there were even more prints and patterns. Here, I’m only wearing two. When paired with jeans, these two pieces seem pretty straight-laced. (Remember, oh, I don’t know, six months ago, when pairing a floral with a plaid would have seemed unquestionably wrong?) With contrasting plaids and prints on the bottom, they’re groundbreaking.
But that’ll come. For now, I loved dipping my toe in the proverbial Dries pond. And, as the only coat I brought with me, this plaid number proved surprisingly versatile. Let’s just say that I really started mixing things up with the old pattern plays as our trip wore on (and my surprisingly wimpy former New England self needed layers to weather the LA “winter”).
More on that tomorrow.
Meanwhile, see how my bag and shoes really made their mark, anchoring pieces that already had a lot going on? Round one of my challenge, a success, if I do say so myself. What do you think?
