I realize I’m the last person on the planet to watch the show Girls (on HBO), but I’m okay with that. I’d prefer to watch a thousand episodes in a row of a show, rather than have to wait a week for a new fix. I’m not much of a t.v. watcher these days anyway, save for a few bad reality shows. (Don’t ask me why, but I cannot turn away from the Kardashians, especially when I feel like they could really use some loyalty right now.)
Beyond being zeitgeisty and the brain-child of a genius like Lena Dunham, Girls is also the inspiration for a particularly rad nail polish line by Deborah Lippmann. Based on the four characters on the show, each of the polishes has a distinct personality. I am partial to the purple shade made for Shoshanna. I may have, in fact, purchased the whole set in order to receive this one shade. And I am so glad I did. It’s the most stunning shade of lavender/periwinkle. I can’t wait to get it on my hands (get it, not get my hands on it? Sorry, I’m under the weather, and apparently, my jokes are down here with me).
On a serious note, I’m finding this such an exciting time to be a woman. There are so many strong, cool young women (Lena Dunham among them) using their voices in bold new ways that previously seemed impossible. Each of these voices leaves me feeling bolder, more myself. Because, ultimately, that’s what these bold new voices are about: being fully, bravely yourself; letting your own voice be heard, as different as it may be from anything heard before. There is room for all of these voices, all of these different colors.
That said, these fabulously different polishes are available here. And three of them, I’d argue, are perfect for Valentine’s Day. Happy V-Day, by the way!! I hope you have a beautiful (and bold) day full of love.
