Leather has leaped into new territory these days. Gone are the times when leather only was an acceptable material for shoes, biker jackets, and chaps. Today, leather can be found in all sorts of variations for just about every piece of clothing. Including thin (and perforated) shirts like this Proenza Schouler tee, which I lusted after the moment I saw it on the runway. White leather, in fact, is having a moment right now, and if the Fall collections are any indication, will be for some time. Paired with a some of the white shoes that I’m having a love affair with at the moment, skinny jeans, and a black and white tweed coat, I was ready for a night on the town this weekend (the town, of course, being San Francisco; and as you can see in the background of the first photo, San Francisco’s Bay Bridge is enjoying a moment in the spotlight).
This past week, the Bay Bridge became a piece of public art, when it was illuminated at night with 25,000 LED lights by artist Leo Villareal. For the next two years, the Bay Bridge will be lit up in a moving pattern of lights, and thanks to a computer program designed by Villareal, will never repeat the same pattern twice. You can read more about the project here, but you really should see it in person, if you can. It’s breathtaking!
