Shape Shifters

The unusual silhouettes of Peter Pilotto’s skirts these days have been fascinating me lately.  Mostly fitted with interesting ruffles and flounces at the bottom, these skirts seem totally different than the norm; and they made me wonder whether one had to be a supermodel to pull them off (because if you don’t have experience with a bunch of ruffles around your knees, how are you to know?).

Well, the results are back, and I have to say these funky shapes are very flattering.  They’re also a lot of fun, because they’re so different (and with their fab patterns, they’re quite eye catching and interesting to look at).

Perhaps the more important lesson here is this– it’s official: a striped mariner tee shirt goes with absolutely everything these days.  No longer reserved for simple, neutral separates, a striped shirt looks amazing even with a wild pattern (or two).  So, try it out: what unexpected item can you pair your striped shirt with?  I’d love to know your findings. . . .

Skirt: Peter Pilotto (similar here and here) / Tee: Proenza Schouler (similar here) / Shoes: Celine (similar here) / Leather Jacket: Balenciaga (old, last seen here) / Bag: Balengiaga (similar here)

  • I completely agree with you about a striped mariner tee working perfectly with a whole lot of stuff and I of course love yours in combo with that beautiful skirt. What a pretty silhouette! Such an incredibly chic look Ali! I’ve personally been pairing mine with florals. 🙂
