Fall is coming, whether we want it to or not. Fall fashion excites me more than at any other time of year, but it requires a change of perception to begin making outfit choices with an eye toward Fall, rather than Summer. For instance, Fall requires more layers, fewer shorts (natch), and it also allows for more textured fabrics.
When I ran across this image of Sarah Jessica Parker looking one part business and one part laid back mom, it caught my eye. This is the perfect transitional outfit for a busy mom who is running to a meeting (or any gal who wants to look chic, yet relaxed). Because her dress is fitted and elegant, without being too tight or claustrophobia-inducing. And it has pockets, which always allow for a more laid-back vibe. It also looks chic with a grey jacket and pumps (although originally I thought she was wearing a grey cardigan, which made me love her look even more, and which would also be appropriate, depending on where you were headed).
SJP’s layers and her suede shoes say Fall to me. And her cross-body bag is a perfect addition for hands-free carrying. Inspired by this photo, I’ve found similar pieces to help you make the transition to Fall:
