Dreaming of a Skirt, and the Life to Go With It

camo and neon Paris Fashion Week

Have you ever lusted after an item that simply did not make sense in your life?  Loved a thing that just didn’t fit in your real world existence, no matter how central it was in your fantasies?

If so, there’s nothing like Paris Fashion Week street style photos to take a fashion fascination to a higher level.  I’ve been eyeing a camo skirt (specifically, this Christopher Kane gem, also here) for ages now.  And the above photo from Paris Fashion Week only heightens my desire.

But there’s one crucial problem with it all.  I don’t really have the kind of life that can support a camo skirt (do I?  Feel free to disagree, because I’d love nothing more than an excuse for one).  What do you do when this happens?  When a fashion fantasy item remains firmly out of the purview of your real life?

So far, I’ve been able to resist my desired item.  Because I really don’t know where I’d wear it.  It’s too formal for a day running around town with kids; it’s a little too tongue-in-cheek for a serious meeting; and, frankly, by the time I go out on a night out, the San Francisco chill has set in, and my legs would probably freeze as I run from place to place.  So, it remains a dream.

Each time I see someone else wearing it, my heart aches a little bit, wishing it could be me.  But I wouldn’t want to buy such an item, only to wear it once.  I’d rather watch others wear it well, and dream.

So far, anyway.  What do you do when faced with a dilemma of lust vs. real life?

YES! and ironically enough this JUST happened to me and it was over a SKIRT! i pondered and pondered then it was sold out and I was able to find my size and went for it…. i couldn’t imagine living without it even if I could only wear it once a year on Christmas. If it is your heart’s desire- i say JUST DO IT 🙂 xo

Thank you for sharing, because it makes me feel MUCH better to know I’m not alone. I’m so glad you eventually tracked down your dream skirt. And I appreciate the encouragement. 😉
