How do you feel about overalls? I’ve been struggling with this question for a bit now, as they’ve been creeping back into fashion. During the ’90s, when I was in high school and college, I was all in. They’re super easy, comfortable, kind of cute. But are they too young? Do they skew toward Osh Kosh B’Gosh?
This is what I’ve been wondering. After all, there are some things that just don’t work past a certain age. Like pink hair, crazy short skirts, pigtails, there are certain fashion statements with an expiration date (though there are, of course, always exceptions for awesome people for whom such things perfectly fit who they are).
I’ve been going back and forth about where overalls fit in this spectrum. Are they time-stamped? Do you have to be under 30 to pull them off?
Gradually, I’ve started to think maybe, just maybe, they’re not only for the very young. And the photos above (though they do not appear to be of women of any type of advanced age), make me ponder it even further. With cool sneaker slides and a Prada winter coat (and a baguette–it won’t come as a surprise, perhaps, that that photo is from a French Magazine) or a blazer and some Rockstud flats, these overalls look less farm girl and more timeless fashionable gal about town.
Besides, given my oft-repeated affinity for jumpsuits, how’s a jumpsuit really different from overalls? Other than the denim. And the buckles.
So, while I continue to contemplate the propriety of wearing overalls after 30, I’m wondering where you stand on this issue? Yay or nay?
