I’m late to the game in finding this book, but now that I have, it’s so good that I want to forego all other life activities and read it until I finish. If I had my wish this weekend, I’d read it until a) I finish; or b) the Oscar’s are on (which happens quite early in California, particularly if you start with the red carpet shows).
Unbroken, written by Laura Hillenbrand (the author of the phenomenal book Seabiscuit), is the true story of Louie Zamperini, a World War II veteran and Olympic runner. Though I’m only 70 pages into the book, the story is already stunning and it’s hard to believe it’s non-fiction.
I’m sure I heard of the book when it came out in 2010, but I was reminded of it the other day when I saw this video of Angelina Jolie with the subject of the book, Louie Zamperini (who is now 97). Angelina is directing the movie based on the book (it will come out this coming Christmas), and she has been very affected by Zamperini and his story. It is touching to see the bond between the two of them, and after doing a little research on the book (in which I discovered it has a five star rating on Amazon— which is nearly unheard of), I had to rush down to the book store and buy it.
If you’re looking for a good read, look no further. And let me know what you think!
