I did it!!!! After much hemming and hawing, I cut my hair! It was a real chop– it’s at least six inches shorter than it was (still not enough, apparently, for my husband to notice the difference, but I’m getting a bit ahead of myself).
I spent the weekend fretting about it. Noticing every long hairstyle that passed by me, wondering whether I’d be jealous of long-haired ladies after my cut. Staring at photos of all potential hair lengths. Comparing old photos of myself when I’d last decided to cut my hair (then rapidly changed my mind back and started growing my hair out again). Asking anyone who would listen about what they thought of my conundrum.
Finally, the day came, and my stylist did something smart. After listening to me, looking at the zillions of pictures I came in with, and offering her own opinion, Yuni just chopped my hair. She knew I’d be sitting in the chair for another hour getting my color perfected, and so she gave it a rough cut so that I wouldn’t be going back and forth in a panic (or, potentially, changing my mind, which was totally possible).
Yuni gave me a long bob with a few long face-framing layers. She thinned out my hair (which is really thick) and gave the ends some movement. And she curled my hair, which I think is how I’d like to wear it.
I love the end result. Even if my husband didn’t notice the change. He insists that’s a good thing because it looks great and he didn’t notice, so that means I’ll get the benefit of the ease of shorter hair without sacrificing any of the looks. (Sounds like subterfuge to me, but I also kind of want it to be true, so I’ll take it. But, don’t worry, I’m still minorly furious he didn’t notice– I mean . . . my hair looked like this when he had last seen me:
How can you not notice that change??)
On the other hand, my mother thinks it’s not short enough and thinks I should go back to get it shorter. So I have a range of opinions to consider. Probably not enough, however. So, let’s have it. . . what do you think?
