The word “obsessed” gets thrown around lightly in fashion circles, but, really, the term fits my deep yearning/searching/dreaming of this dress from Proenza Schouler many seasons ago. I realized I needed it in my life too late, and as a result, I am left powerless in my desire, with only midnight Ebay searches to stave off complete madness. (Someday, maybe, it’ll come available in my size at exactly the time I happen to be searching for it? I swear that, deep down, I really believe this could happen. Because fashion destiny demands it).
In the meantime, I’ll search and dream. And, once in a great while, I think I may have spotted a substitute. A dress that bears some, if not all, of the attributes of this fine frock. The past few times I thought I’d spied a dress that fit the bill (and helped assuage some of the pain of discovering my abiding passion for this dress), they came up short in the end.
But this Christopher Kane number from his Resort 2015 collection may finally do the trick. It’s got many of the personality traits of the aforementioned mind-occupying frock: neon, lacy details, a lingerie-inspired feel, black and white additions, and general awesomeness. I think it may be just what the doctor ordered.
