Burberry’s Jubilant Spring Ideas

Burberry SS 2015 3

If there’s one collection so far that I can’t get out of my head from the Spring 2015 runways, it’s Burberry Prorsum.  There were so many fun ideas to take away from it, and I cannot get enough of its melange of bright (and muted) colors.

Though the Spring collections are showing now, you’d never guess from many of the colors being shown.  Designers seem more and more to be mixing up the colors of the seasons– so, for instance, there are tons of pastels for this Fall/Winter.  And many of the shows for Spring have shown colors that would previously have been considered traditional Fall colors– like maroon, for instance.  And tons of black and white.

But Burberry threw those ideas to the wind and adopted, instead, a rainbow of hues, often worn together.  The footwear, alone, sported a rainbow of colors in each shoe.  Birkinstock-like sandals with multiple bright colors were worn with sheer tulle dresses.  And lest one think the sneaker trend is over, Burberry says “no way,”  and pairs sneakers with dresses that could be worn to the fanciest of occasions.

And, though most of the runways have shown very minimal natural makeup for Spring, Burberry instead chose bright red lips (using this lip pencil and this lipstick to define the models lips, and then applying powder to make them dramatically matte).  I love this beauty look and might just start wearing it now.  The teal nail polish was bright and memorable as well.

The company’s signature trenches were given a springy reboot, as well, with printed designs full of color and tied with tulle sashes, which looks really fun (and easy to duplicate).  The overall look was so exuberant, I’m finding it hard not to be smitten with every aspect of it.  Because if your fashion can’t make you happy, what’s the point?  You can preorder many of the pieces from the collection here until September 29.
