The other day I read one of those fabulous lists of “Things I Can’t Live Without” by an A-lister (I live for those lists!), and it got me thinking of what I couldn’t live without. It was only then that I realized how central my Vitamix blender is to my life. Days without it are a bit shaky, at best, because I’ve come to truly rely on it.
On that particular day, in fact, I used my Vitamix three times (twice to make different smoothies, and once to whip up a salad dressing). That basically means I wouldn’t have eaten that day were it not for my blender, so that qualifies as something I can’t live without, right?
I remember when I was contemplating buying a Vitamix blender, I was really on the fence. They are pricey, and it seemed like my life would be more enhanced by a fabulous pair of shoes or something more memorable than a blender for that money. After all, can’t you buy a blender for like $15 at Target?
Nonetheless, the reviews insisted that Vitamix was the King of All Blenders and would almost certainly change your whole life. Well, maybe that was what justified the price? A $15 blender had never changed my life before. Besides, you could even make soups in it, apparently. I wouldn’t know for sure, because soup isn’t really my jam, but allegedly this blender goes so fast, it can make and heat your soup (doesn’t that sound like magic?!).
Anyway, it cleans about a bazillion times easier than any other blender (and twenty bazillion times better than a juicer), which makes it nearly priceless in my book (plus, it leaves the fiber in your drinks, so that, too, is an advantage over a juicer). Most times, I basically run water in it, and that does this trick. Every so often I add some soap and run a sponge over it, but miraculously, this is often not even necessary.
So, I’d say I can’t live without my Vitamix blender. This is not a paid advertisement, though it sounds like it. It’s just a PSA. And because I’m always looking for new recipes, I thought I’d share those three I made that day. Just pop the ingredients in your blender, and blend!
