There are few books whose arrival has caused me as much excited anticipation as Mindy Kaling’s new book, Why Not Me? This is because, after contemplating my list of favorite books, it occurred to me that Books by Female Comedy Writers may be my most favorite genre. Hence, I adore Tina Fey’s book (it’s one of my favorites of all time); I loved Amy Poehler’s; and I cried tears of laughter reading Mindy Kaling’s first book. (The chapters on her youth are worth the cost of the book, as far as I’m concerned.)
Who couldn’t use a laugh just about every day? I know I certainly could. And when I cracked open Why Not Me today, I quickly had reason to laugh, just as I suspected I would. In fact, I am currently only on page 18, but I have already lost track of the guffaws that have erupted from my mouth. (Good thing I’m by myself. I vividly remember some of the places I was reading the books listed above, because embarrassing situations ensued in those places– including jury duty and seated on an airplane.) I have already had to put the book down, twice, to give in to uncontrollable laughter (and fully appreciate the laughter-inducing passage). That is a crazy high ratio, if you ask me.
I am so excited to keep reading this book. Will you be reading Why Not Me? If so, we must share favorite passages. (There’s a little ditty on page 14 I’m trying to commit to memory because it’s so funny, and so true.) Happy reading!!
