Smitten with a Scent that Nearly Got Away

Diptyque Eau Rose

I have a new favorite in the perfume department, and there’s kind of a funny story behind it.

My mother was visiting last week, and one afternoon we stole off for an hour to go to a few shops.  When we got back in the car, something smelled delicious, and I needed to know what it was.  Turned out it was something my mom had spritzed on at Space NK Apothecary.

As soon as we returned home, I called to figure out which perfume she might have sampled.  Based on my mother’s description, the woman we had just worked with at the store thought she knew which Diptyque fragrance it was.

So I purchased it over the phone and planned to have it shipped to my house in San Francisco (as we had been away and were preparing to leave for the airport to head home).

Every time I passed my mom I smelled the delicious scent again and became even more obsessed with getting that exact perfume.  But something told me it was a different one than I had just bought over the phone.

So on the way to the airport we made a quick stop into the store (while I still had my mom with me) so that she could point out exactly which fragrance it was.  And good thing, because it was different than the one I’d purchased (and had an entirely different location and description than the one my mom– who had not been wearing her glasses at the store– gave.  This is the part that really cracked me up).

I went home with Diptyque’s Eau Rose, which is a seriously beautiful (and not overly rosy) scent.  It smells great when first sprayed, and still smells swoon-worthy hours later.  In fact, as I was writing this, my husband gave me a hug and told me I smelled good (from the application of Eau Rose that I’d made hours earlier).  And the woman who helped us at Space NK mentioned that (though she works in a store with a plethora of scents to choose from), she only wears Eau Rose anymore, because she always gets so many compliments on it.

I am so thrilled to have a new scent that I am this excited about.  It’s the little things, after all.

Diptyque’s Eau Rose is available here and here; and it also comes in a body lotion (also here), hand cream, and smaller roller ball applicator.
