My favorite dress at the Oscars was Naomie Harris’s white sequined Calvin Klein dress. Its unusual shape (a short dress with a sweetheart neckline, cutout under the bust, and train) really stood out. Raf Simons (formerly of Dior) recently joined Calvin Klein, and Naomi’s dress is the first red carpet dress he’s done for the American house. It looked so cool on Naomie, and her mismatched yellow shoes were an added show-stopping element.
Ruth Negga’s red Valentino dress was another favorite. The color looks stunning on her (not to mention her bejeweled red headband), and I love the unusual high neck and long sleeves. Wasn’t it just last year that everyone was wearing nearly naked dresses to all the awards shows?
Finally, I loved Isabelle Huppert’s gorgeous pale pink Armani Privé sequined dress with a short train and a belt tied at her waist (which is one of fashion’s favorite styling tricks these days). It somehow looked both regal and casual on her– super fancy, but like it might be comfortable. (And isn’t that what we all long for when we’re decked out?) Plus, I loved that she wore black nail polish. It really stands out, and is unusual on an older woman (but now I have justification for wearing dark nails forever, right?)
