Designers At Home

Wouldn’t you love to see inside the homes of interior designers?  I, for one, would (and do), and the gorgeous new book Designers At Home allows us to do just that.

This past weekend at the lovely San Francisco home goods store Hudson Grace, there was a book signing with the author of this behind-the-scenes tome, Ronda Rice Carman.  She could not have been sweeter, and her book is full of so much inspiration.  It takes you into the personal homes of fifty admired interior designers and explores their ideas about design as well as their favorite items and design elements.  It’s a lush book, full of gorgeous photos and insightful text (not to mention a Forward by Martha Stewart!).

Designers At Home is a beautiful book full of ideas and inspiration.  It’s also a wonderful gift for someone in your life, including your mother, with Mother’s Day on the horizon.  I have a feeling you (and mom) will find yourselves coming back to it for years to come.

Happy Monday!

You Belong With Me

I think it’s nearly impossible not to break out into song with a huge smile on your face when you hear The Lumineers’ song Ho Hey (check out the video here, especially if for some reason you’ve never heard it).  That’s why it’s our family jam, which even our two year old joins in to sing along with.  When I saw this Etsy print with the lyrics, it brought another smile to my face.  I might need to own this print.  In the meantime, I’m going to be humming with a grin.

Have a lovely weekend!!

Creativity At Play

Last night there was a lovely event celebrating Heather Clawson’s new book, Creativity At Work (which I recently raved about here).  It was held at a great new home goods shop called Hudson Grace here in San Francisco.  Decorated in shades of grey and white, the whole place was decked out with orange accents to highlight Heather’s book, which looked so cool.

Heather, herself, is a gem.  And she was looking fabulous, wearing a tuxedo blazer with emerald J. Crew pants and Valentino shoes (a lovely look for the upcoming holidays, by the way).  She mentioned that she already has ideas for a second book (which, though this book is brand new, I’m already looking forward to).

Hudson Grace (which is named after the owners’ dogs) is full of lovely home accents.  For the book signing, they were passing out champagne in fabulous stemless champagne flutes (which they sell in the shop, and I’m dreaming of owning).  They also have a beautiful selection of dishware, napkins and napkin rings, coffee table books, and candles.

If you’re in San Francisco, stop by Hudson Grace for its lovely selection of home goods and accessories (and a gorgeous collection of coffee table books).  And put Heather Clawson’s Creativity At Work on your Christmas List (for yourself or others).  It’s full of inspiration!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Inspired By: Jenna Lyons’ Office

Can you tell I’m still thinking about Jenna Lyons’ office?  As I mentioned the other day, it is beautifully covered in Heather Clawson’s new book Creativity At Work.  After perusing those pages repeatedly, I’ve scoured the Earth for more photos of it, because short of having a meeting chez Jenna, how else can one fully appreciate all the details lovingly compiled inside?

Isn’t Jenna’s office grand?  I love the color she injects so boldly and unexpectedly (do you know anyone else with a hot pink desk or a stack of hot yellow luggage in her office?  How about a pink fur thrown over the chair?) along with a geometric black and white moroccan rug.

I’ve hunted down the items inside Jenna’s office, because now that we’ve been so inspired, it’s essential to know where to procure these items, no?  Behold  . . .

Thank you for the inspiration, Jenna!!  Have a wonderful weekend all!

Indoor/Outdoor

Something about indoor/outdoor spaces transports me to my happy place.  First, they imply that the weather is good enough to open the doors wide, which is lovely and aspirational.  And something about living with the air moving through your space is heavenly.  So these are the spaces I’m dreaming of right now.  Join me?

I love how different these spaces are and that even a garage-style door can be the gateway to an indoor/outdoor paradise.  And a view of Maui doesn’t hurt either, does it?

Have a Happy Thursday!

Inspiring Spaces: Living Room with Pop

When I saw this photo in The New York Times Magazine a few weeks ago, it beckoned me.  I was drawn in by the relative simplicity, the palette of white, gray, black, and punches of magenta.  It’s both soothing and invigorating, calm and lively.  These are hard combinations to pull off, but here they are, perfectly. The furniture is all upholstered in solids, but there are animal prints, polka dots, patterns, and boldly hued artwork to add punch.
I keep studying the photo to figure out how they’ve pulled off so many seemingly contradictory aims.  It’s still somewhat mysterious to me, but this much I know: hot pink velvet makes a statement, no matter what it’s surrounded by.  What an incredible way to add “pop” to a a space!
Have a bright + happy weekend!

Inspiring Objects: Silver Bathtubs

Until recently, I naively assumed that bathtubs came in limited options: basically white or tiled.  But thanks to the wonders of Pinterest, my eyes have been opened to the truth: beautiful, shiny silver is also a bathtub option.  Did you know this?  Am I the last to find out?
Well, either way, I’m smitten.  A silver bath brings an elegance to a bathroom that a plain old white one just doesn’t.  And it can be styled in a number of ways, depending on whether you like modern, rustic, or more traditional elements.  One thing is certain, however: a silver bathtub instantly adds glamor to its surroundings.
Yep, glamorous bathrooms are possible.  Now I know.
